There are a few things I want to address with you. First and foremost, I don’t hate you. I just want to be treated as your equal. What’s wrong with that? I want to be able to get the same jobs as you, get paid as much as you for those same jobs, not be worried about harassment, etc.
Second, the #metoo movement should be a wake-up call to every single one of you. If you are one of the ‘good guys’ who does not rape or harass women good for you. But do you call your friends, family, coworkers, bosses, sons out when they make inappropriate comments, comments, or catcalls? Do you call them out when they touch women inappropriately? If not, I hate to break it to you, but you’re not one of the ‘good guys.’ And for the love of god, please do not call these men ‘players’ or ‘ladies men.’ They are sexual predators, end of discussion.
If you want to be a true ‘good guy’ call these disgusting men out on their bullshit, don’t engage in ‘locker room talk,’ and if a woman you know tells you she has been assaulted/harassed believe her. Head to this blog for a longer and more comprehensive list of what to do but for the short version; believe her and support her.
Third, please don’t feel like you have to live up to this machismo culture that our society forces on you. It’s hurtful for everyone involved. It hurts you as a child, teen, and adult. It hurts the other men in your life as well as the women in your life. You can head to this blog if you want a longer discussion on this (head to the middle section of the post for the machismo part). I want you to live a happy life as much as I want women to live a happy life; trying to live up to this insane lifestyle does not seem like a happy way to live.
