Feature Friday – Feminist Script

Today we are highlighting FeministScript. To use their own words they are a “feminist with an intersectional lens standing up to all the kyriarchies.” The person behind this Instagram account would like to remain anonymous because they believe that feminism is for everyone thus they don’t want to make one person the face of feminism and I completely respect that.

You can also check them out on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. Can you tell me about feministscript?
It’s an outlet in which followers can familiarize themselves with basic concepts of feminism
  2. What prompted you to start feministscript?
It was born out of a “what I wish I’d known when I was younger” desire to share my basic understandings with everyone else, whether they are older or younger than me. It used to be a cartoon Instagram but I couldn’t keep up with demand unfortunately and resolve to do more.
  3. What do you feel is your biggest focus with feministscript?
A lot of issues facing Americans given the leadership as well as reproductive rights, black lives matter, LGBTQ+ erasures, but I try to cover as many issues as I can because it is a multi-faceted system of oppression we all face as well as the fact that what I experience isn’t the same as another person.
  4. What does it mean to you to be an activist?
It means forcing yourself to speak out against injustice, slowly leaning into the uncomfortable activity of learning & unlearning, checking privilege and understanding local, modern injustices.
  5. What personal experiences drew you to being a feminist and activist?
Seeing how my friends were harassed or oppressed differently than me because of the color of their skin, their sexuality, their socioeconomic background, etc.
  6. Have you ever experienced any threats because of what you’re doing?
Thankfully not too many, just the occasional angry DM.
  7. If so can you tell me about them and how you deal with them?
I usually ignore and report them because wasting my mental energy on them isn’t worth it.
  8. Do these threats ever make you reconsider what you’re doing?
Never, because 99% of the time they come from insecure teenaged boys
  9. What do you feel is your biggest focus with feministscript?
Introducing feminist concepts to people who hadn’t thought about them before.
  10. If there was one activist resource that you wish everyone would read or view what would it be?
    https://www.ted.com/talks/kimberle_crenshaw_the_urgency_of_intersectionality
  11. Is there anyone or any group of people who inspires you or prods you to action?
A lot of people, friends, Kirsten Gillibrand, Janet Mock, Elizabeth Warren, Kimberle Crenshaw, Cornel West, Planned Parenthood, the Women’s March organizers, #metoo activists, the list is never ending because I meet and read about so many wonderful feminists who are doing the good work.
  12. If you could change one thing about this world what would it be?
Having all of the major world leaders be female so they would get more done, focus on issues facing women & children and destigmatize powerful women.
