Utah is very republican. I mean really, really red. It’s almost disgusting how red that state is. However, that’s not what this post is about. This post is about an open letter To President Obama I came across that happens to come from a Utahan man.
There are few times I proudly say I am from Utah but this is one of those times. It warms my heart to see people openly expressing gratitude for President Obama, especially when they are in the exact demographic that is supposed to hate him.
In the coming weeks, months, and years we need to make sure to hold onto the love we have for each other. We may be facing some hard times for one reason or another and we need to support each other, stand up for each other, up lift each other, and love each other. ❤
Here is the letter:
“Dear Mr. President,
I am a 64-year-old white Mormon male from Utah. You probably don’t get many admiring letters from my “demographic” (which is a shame), but here’s one for you.
Now that your term is ending, I congratulate you for being a wonderful president. I see you as a great man. You are a beacon of hope for billions of marginalized people. You saved our economy from collapsing. You have used the tools of peace — patience, negotiation, empathy — instead of the weapons of war — and done all this against a peculiarly vicious opposition every step of the way. You have shown the world what a real man is by your devotion to your beautiful family.
Your accomplishments aside, you will be known to history as a great president like Lincoln or JFK. Why? Because you inspire us with your uplifting words, your cool dignity and your strength of character. People will look back at Barack Obama and realize what a truly inspirational figure he was.
Don’t think twice about those who call you a failure. You have not failed us; we have failed you. Duped by a demagogue, we have failed to live up to your vision of a just, compassionate society.
That’s why your example will shine so much the brighter someday. Please know that many of us are deeply grateful for your leadership.
God bless you and your family, President Obama. We will miss you.
